Join the Club

The Boston Bowl Club meets on a quarterly basis (think winter, spring, summer, fall) to paint pots and make friends at Studio Blue Pottery. The project is focused on fostering community connection, giving people a more cost-conscious opportunity to engage with pottery, and promoting the joy of ceramics.

So What is the Boston Bowl Club?

  • We meet on the first (or second) Saturday of a given month, where you can drop in during a four hour window to paint a handmade pinch pot. You can spend as much or as little time painting as you would like, and at the end of your session you fill out a card with information about yourself (think name, interests, a little about what you painted on your bowl).

    We then fire your piece, along with everyone else’s and we pair each bowl with a different member.

    At the next Boston Bowl Club Meeting, a bowl will be waiting for you with your name on it. When you come to pick up a bowl, you will be given the bowl assigned to you, as well as the card that the club member filled out telling you about themself. Annual members also receive additional goodies at pick-up :)

  • Confused? See an example of a winter timeline below:

    First Saturday in January: Studio Blue is open from 11am-3pm for you to drop in, choose a bowl, and paint it

    Second Saturday in January: rain/holiday/potential alternative date, if the first Saturday falls on a holiday weekend

    Our team then takes all of the gorgeously painted bowls, lets them carefully dry, fires them, dips them in glaze, fires them again, pairs the bowls up with their future homes, and packages them up for you

    First Saturday in April: You can drop in to pick up your piece, and the second quarter’s bowl club takes place! Keep your membership going by painting another piece at drop-in!

  • Membership to the Boston Bowl Club comes in two forms:

    A drop-in membership, good for one season’s bowl exchange, and an annual membership, which guarantees you a spot at all four bowl club meet-ups, and gives you access to some extra goodies along the way :)

    Drop in membership is $50, and the annual membership is slightly discounted, at $175

    If you purchase a one-time membership, you may use it at any of the bowl club meetings during a year (it doesn’t apply to a specific one). If you have an annual membership, we expect you’ll come to all four in a year, but of course the choice is yours :)

  • We get that your art is precious—it matters to us as well! The Boston Bowl Club is centered around community building and fostering connection, so we exchange all of the bowls to help with our mission.
